Just a little after 7:04 am today on Saturday September 3rd houses shook across Norhtwest Arkansas. Reports show an estimate 5.6 earthquake was felt across Arkansas, Oklahoma and Missouri. Not much information is available yet but social media outlets flooded with Posts and Comments on this morning’s events. Most people were curious if any damage was done anywhere in the region. So far there has not been any reports of damage but that may change. Below is a list of post earthquake inspections of homes and business that should occur.
What to look for after a small earthquake:
- Look for cracks in interior or exterior walls of your building
- Check your chimney for cracks or structural damage
- Check around windows for openings or gaps
- Inspect your heat and air unit to make sure no movement of duct work occurred
- Look for gaps around pipes
- Check under sinks or water connections for leaks
- Keep your sniffers open for gas leaks
Of course if you find any signs of damage you need to contact the appropriate authorities to make sure you and your family are safe. Times like these remind us how important preparation and our family is, usually we make the first phone calls to those we care about and ensure everyone is safe.
Appreciate the lesson we have received this morning on being ready for emergencies, for example, do you have a prep kit at home? Below are a few items that should be stashed in a bag specifically for times of crisis.
- Canned food
- Cell phone and Charger
There of course are many other items but this is just enough to get you started, do your research and find what fits your family needs.
Speaking of Preparation there is also a local Self DEFENSE seminar Saturday September 17th at 10:30 am in Springdale Arkansas, This is a free event to your family ages 13 and up. This will be an education on surroundings, survival and Self Defense techniques. you can get more information here
Stay safe NWA!!!!!
